Nīmes Roman Festival 2027

Nīmes Roman Festival 2027: a spring getaway in the South of France

Roman legionaries in the streets, historical performances in the ancient amphitheatre and activities across the city: the Nīmes Roman Festival, known locally as Les Journées romaines, offers a lively introduction to the city’s Roman heritage.

The Nīmes Roman Festival 2027 is expected in April, with exact dates and the full programme still to be confirmed. Previous editions have centred on three main festival days, with some activities taking place in the days beforehand. Staying for three or four nights gives you time to enjoy the festival and explore more of the region at a relaxed pace.

What to expect at the Nīmes Roman Festival

The main attraction is the historical show inside the Roman amphitheatre, the Arčnes de Nīmes. In 2026, the story of Spartacus was brought to life by more than 500 historical reenactors, riders and stunt performers.

You do not need to be an expert in ancient history to enjoy the setting and the scale of the performance.

Guests staying with us regularly attend the festival and return delighted. Their experiences often become part of the conversation over dinner that evening.

The theme of the 2027 show has yet to be announced.

Discover more of Roman Nīmes

Previous editions have included an ancient market, a Gallo-Roman village, a legionaries’ camp, workshops and parades. These give a flavour of the festival, although the activities for 2027 remain to be confirmed.

Allow time to explore Nīmes itself, too. Visit the Maison Carrée, stroll through the Jardins de la Fontaine and discover the collections at the Musée de la Romanité.

And between visits, find a café terrace and pause for a while. There is no need to fit everything into one day.

Where to stay near Nīmes

Around a 30-minute drive from Nīmes, La Maison du Passage is an adults-only boutique guesthouse in Martignargues, a village with Roman origins. Our house, almost a thousand years old, adds another chapter of history to your stay.

With just three guest rooms and three suites, this is a small, welcoming place to return to after a day exploring. We are Hervé and Franēois, your hosts, and we look forward to welcoming you personally, sharing our favourite places and helping you discover our corner of southern France.

Enjoy comfortable rooms with air conditioning whenever you need it, a swimming pool and quiet spaces to unwind. Some suites also have a private hot tub.

In the evening, join us for dinner by advance reservation. Franēois’s home cooking, inspired by local produce and his love of French food, is very much part of the experience.

Stay a little longer in the Gard

Spend three or four nights with us and combine the Roman Festival with a visit to the Pont du Gard, a day in Uzčs or a leisurely drive through the surrounding villages.

You will have time for the sights, but also for long breakfasts, good food and the slower pace of village life.

Explore our rooms and suites and plan your spring stay at La Maison du Passage, near Nīmes.

Please check the confirmed festival dates, programme and ticket availability with the organisers before booking a stay specifically for the event.
